Charbox
Bothell, WA, USA
The Char Box is a secluded hideout nestled between a private residence and a canopy of old-growth trees. I was part of the team that built this project from the ground up, utilizing an existing concrete wall as a structural foundation for the new build. My work spanned every phase of construction, from the initial framing and foundation to the high-end interior finishes.
The architecture mimics the raw, textured layers of a burned tree through the use of contrasting horizontal and vertical siding. The roof was designed as a folded extension of this exterior skin, reaching out to shelter a floating entrance. I personally performed the staining and installation of the cladding and the cedar interior, ensuring the "charred" aesthetic flowed seamlessly across the building's sharp geometric lines. This project was a study in precision, resulting in a quiet, high-craft retreat that feels like a natural extension of the forest floor.
