Backyard Office

A single-car garage conversion offers a sophisticated solution for the modern work-from-home lifestyle. On this project, I took the lead on the design and execution, working closely with the client to reimagine a utilitarian structure as a high-end workspace. By reframing the roof and integrating a new skylight, door, and window, we transformed the interior volume to maximize natural light, dividing the layout to balance practical driveway storage with a private studio.
The small footprint allowed for an intense focus on tactile, precision finishes. A centerpiece of the space is the light grey micro-cement flooring; I personally handled the substrate preparation and hand-troweled application to create a seamless, minimalist foundation. To maximize the utility of the room, I designed and installed custom white-washed solid fir elements, including a built-in desk and recessed shelving. Every reveal and shadow line was meticulously considered, using integrated lighting and brushed lime-paint walls to create a cohesive, elevated environment. This project was a rewarding opportunity to bridge design and craftsmanship, delivering a workspace that is as functional as it is visually quiet.
