Chapman Residence
Seattle, WA, USA
The Chapman project was a collaboration with clients who are both architects, requiring a builder capable of executing complex detailing with zero margin for error. The primary goal was to open the home to expansive ocean views while using soft tones and precise lines to frame the new volume. Translating the design direction established between the owners and my former employer, I took the lead on-site to ensure the structural and aesthetic intent was executed with total precision.
I worked directly with subcontractors to rework the structure, ensuring all services and materials aligned perfectly within the architectural grid. To achieve the symmetry the clients sought, I meticulously executed the architect's design for a sharp, consistent datum line that allowed the windows and tile to hit perfectly. This required a level of accuracy that provided a seamless visual flow across the entire interior.
I personally performed the tile installation, which was a significant technical challenge involving a layout so precise that no tiles were cut except where they integrated with the floating shelves. Every line was calculated for total continuity across the walls. By managing the on-site coordination of trade partners and performing this high-stakes finish work myself, I ensured that every reveal and junction met the rigorous standards of the architect-owners.
